After the Fires

We’re excited to invite you to “After the Fires”, a free public event happening on May 24th at the Audubon Center at Debs Park. This gathering will bring together an incredible lineup of speakers, poets, artists, filmmakers, day laborers, and tenant union organizers to explore the ongoing impact of the Los Angeles wildfires on our communities.

The event is open to all and free of charge. We’ll also have bookshops, plant vendors, and more joining us! Read more

Join us for this book talk with Dr. Maya Wind, President’s & Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Riverside, and a fellow at the Freedom and Justice Institute of Scholars for Social Justice. 

Israeli universities have long enjoyed a reputation as liberal bastions of freedom and democracy. This book shatters this myth, and shows how israeli universities serve as pillars of israel's system of oppression against Palestinians. Academic disciplines, degree programs, campus infrastructure, and research laboratories all service israeli occupation and apartheid, while universities violate the rights of Palestinians to education, stifle critical scholarship, and violently repress student dissent.  Read more

Social Justice Visual Storytelling Workshop with James Rodriguez

This two-day, in person workshop teaches social justice via visual storytelling using smartphones. Participants will gain foundational skills and theory to create a 10-image digital story, focusing on social justice issues and community resilience. In session 1 (April 10th), you’ll learn basic photojournalism techniques and ethics in documentary. In session 2 (April 17th), you’ll edit and sequence your images to craft your digital narrative for sharing on various media platforms.  Read more

In the morning panel, the authors of Abolish Rent: How Tenants Can End The Housing Crisis (2024) will explore tenant mobilization and housing rights.
