The Good Person of Setzuan
September 24-27, 2025
Written by Bertolt Brecht | Adapted by Tony Kushner
Directed by听Shanna Beauchamp
Three gods arrive in the town of Setzuan with nowhere to stay; Shen Te a downtrodden young woman attempting to lead a 鈥済ood life鈥 offers lodgings to the Gods. In return for her kindness, they grant her a vast sum of money, intended as both a gift and a test. As using the money towards charity for others begins to weigh heavy on Shen Te, she assumes an alter ego obsessed with the God鈥檚 challenge. Adapted by Tony Kushner, this searing parable by master playwright Bertolt Brecht dares us to question what it means to be 鈥済ood鈥.
