Welcome to Community Engagement

The Office of Community Engagement supports CSUN’s mission to cultivate civic responsibility among students, faculty, and staff by facilitating community-based (service) learning classes, promoting co-curricular engagement activities, implementing community- based research, and fostering equitable, reciprocal, and sustainable community partnerships and projects within the San Fernando Valley, the greater Los Angeles area, and beyond.

Our Vision

Community-engaged collaborations between CSUN and our larger communities result in the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources. Community-engaged work builds coalitions that help mobilize resources, influence systems, and serve as catalysts for initiating and/or changing policies, programs, and practices.

Our Mission

The Office of Community Engagement—based on the principles of reciprocity, civic responsibility, and democratic values—seeks to:

  1. Enrich scholarship and enhance the curriculum for students, faculty, and staff
  2. Create high impact, academic community-based service learning experiences
  3. Sustain reciprocal community and academic partnerships between CSUN and the San Fernando Valley and the greater Los Angeles area communities
  4. Prepare educated, engaged citizens to become lifelong, civically minded learners and leaders
